Aims of the Kings Clipstone Project
19th October 2006
The aim of the project is to raise the status of Kings Clipstone as ‘The Royal Heart of Ancient Sherwood’, in order to protect the remains of its important past and reunify the fractured parts of the modern forest.
This has five important strands.
Preservation
Preserving the important historical sites in and around the village. This includes the layout of the village, which grew up outside the gates of the palace, and the many sites of historically interest.
Restoration
Improving the environment and habitat in and around the village in order to revive the ancient forest.
Access
By developing walking and cycling links to the surrounding area.
- to allow both residents and visitors to get to the numerous sites in a safe, environmentally friendly and sustainable way.
- to allow access that does not destroy the context of the historically and environmentally important sites.
- to provide facilities that encourage a healthy and sustainable life style.
Education
To embed in the wider community an understanding of Kings Clipstone’s important and interesting past by developing interpretative displays, booklets and a web site to allow visitors to understand the context of what they are experiencing.
Building a stronger sense of community
By working together to
- achieve safer access for pedestrians through and around the village so that residents are able to meet each other.
- create a community meeting place to allow residents to socially interact.
- develop a sense of ‘place and time’ by continuing to expand the village history project.
